Why does the hose behind my dryer keep crushing?

Usually because the dryer sits too close to the wall. Foil and old vinyl duct folds flat when pushed. The elbow behind the drum takes the worst of it. In tight utility closets the hose kinks at the turn. Lint then catches on every ridge. A rigid or semi-rigid 90-degree periscope fitting fixes this. It lets the dryer sit near the wall without pinching. Vinyl duct should come out regardless. It is not rated for dryer exhaust.

The hose is only the connector. The run past the wall matters more. Houston homes split into a few patterns. Postwar ranch and bungalow stock often has short through-wall runs under eight feet. Attached-garage laundry corners get garage-wall or garage-ceiling runs. Two-story and infill homes push long attic-to-roof-jack runs. Townhomes and condos vent through a soffit. Replacing the hose will not help if the real restriction is elsewhere. Long attic runs sag into low spots. Lint and condensate pool there. Roof jacks collect bird nests and wasp nests. Screens clog too. Wall caps lose dampers or stick shut.

Check it yourself. Run the dryer and feel the exterior hood. Weak or warm-damp airflow means the run is blocked, not the hose.
